OTHER THINGS
The group exhibition Other Things brings together the works of Jelena Telecki, Nina Knezevic and Gregory Sharp. Other Things presents three artists intricate attempts to represent and change the impossible, unexplainable or unresolved. Nina Knezevic depicts a mirage of lived experiences, faces and landscapes, which combine remembered elements of the past alongside cipher like familial photographs. An ode to non-linear life narratives as quiet unnerving drawings, Other Things refers to the problematic and persuasive materialism of the remembered past. Greg Sharp considers an artist's aesthetic expression to be an externalised proxy of the psyche, and taken as such, considers it the supreme attempt at communication. Aiming to transform a memory through her work by mimicking the uneasy way she remembers the past, Jelena Telecki's work alternates between the accurate depictions of the past she aims to recover and those that have changed the past into something different. This difference, or Otherness, lies in the perception of the past affected by the knowledge of the traumatic in -between events in Telecki's home country, which have left a great impact both on her life and art practice. Art is intrinsically other, Other Things highlights the 'unique otherness' as an essential part of the art practice of three artists.
